First Scott Pilgrim Hands-On Hits The Net

Remember the announcement that Scott Pilgrim was getting an 8-bit styled game as a companion to it’s final volume/movie release? And remember when Anamanguchi debuted the music from the game at PAX? Well, now the first ever hands on review of the title is online – and it’s a good one.

The folks over at GameInformer have posted their hands on of the game, as well as some new screenshots. The game is a (up to) four person brawler in the style of classic system games with 2D side scrolling, and it allows the player to step into Scott Pilgrim’s shoes, as well as Kim Pine, Ramona Flowers, and Stephen Stills. According to the review,

Combat covers all the brawler bases with two attack buttons, blocks, throws, counters, ground strikes, weapons, jumps, dashes, and grapples. You can also taunt, summon a mystical ninja, and resurrect knocked out players, which you don’t really see in brawlers. As you defeat enemies, you’ll gain experience and cash. The former grants you new moves upon leveling up (like an air recovery or spin attack) and the latter can be spent at River City Ransom-esque shops integrated into stages. Items like food and accessories are available here alongside straight up attribute boosts to strength, defense, speed, and willpower.

I don’t think I have to say this, but this game is probably going to rock ultimate.

Although no release date has been announced yet, I’m sure you all can’t wait to get your little hands on it. The game will be an exclusive on the PS3 for a short while before eventually moving to the XBOX 360 as well, so gamers – get your pads ready.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
