Over a year after the first footage from 2021’s DC FanDome, several delays, and numerous incidents involving lead actor Ezra Miller, Warner Bros. aired the first trailer for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash at this year’s Super Bowl:
All in all, the movie seems like a fairly faithful take on Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s 2011 event storyline ‘Flashpoint,’ in which Barry Allen’s attempts to go back in time and prevent his mother (Maribel Verdú)’s death creates a new reality, but instead of a world facing a war between the Amazons and Atlanteans, it’s one still threatened by Man of Steel‘s General Zod (Michael Shannon).
Barry teams up with his counterpart from this reality, and Michael Keaton’s version of Batman, who returns along with Danny Elfman’s theme. Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne from the original DCEU is also shown, now sporting a blue-and-gray costume; while Sasha Calle’s Supergirl/Kara Zor-El takes her cousin’s place in the original story as the Kryptonian captured and incarcerated by the government.
The Flash will reset DC Studios’ film and TV universe on June 16, paving the way for new actors to play the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s recently announced Superman: Legacy, and The Brave and the Bold — whether Miller returns or not remains to be seen.
The second trailer for Gunn’s final Marvel project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (out May 5), was also released, giving us more of Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary and Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, as well as the terrifying prospect of a Star-Lord/Nebula romance:
Lucasfilm, meanwhile, aired a 30-second spot for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30), giving us more of Harrison Ford’s digitally deaged Dr. Jones in the 1940s, Mads Mikkelsen’s “ex-Nazi” villain Jürgen Voller, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Indy’s goddaughter Helena Shaw:
Lastly, Paramount and Porsche released a Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (June 9) spot, featuring the first dialogue from Pete Davidson’s Autobot Mirage, who turns into a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8:
