While they likely aren’t destined to make it into most buy piles, I wanted to make sure comic fans are aware of two exceptional releases that are coming out today.

First off, we have the relaunch of Brahm Revel’s Guerillas. We’ve previously spoken to Revel about this series, as it has previously been released via Image in four big issues, but now it is going to be completed at Oni Press in three trade paperbacks. Check out this plot synopsis from Oni:

Private John Francis Clayton is on his first tour of duty in Vietnam, facing death at every turn in the middle of a war he doesn’t understand. Clayton is just trying to stay alive when he encounters an elite platoon of…. simian soldiers?!? This squad of chain-smoking chimps is the most dangerous fighting force in the jungle… but whose side are they on?

It’s a damn good series, with art that recalls Charles Burns and a story that reads like a mix of all of your favorite war stories coming from a bit of fantastical angle. It’s a must buy in my book.

Second off, we have the trade paperback release of Caanan Grall’s “Celadore,” a Zuda series that completely floored me when I read it in one fell swoop for the purposes of an interview with Grall. It’s a massively entertaining read for all to enjoy. Plot synposis!

Christian, an evil, corporate vampire, has lit the day candle, which allows vampires to walk in the sun. Vampire hunter Celadore now must destroy the candle — but her soul has been bounced into the comatose body of Evelyn Massey, an 11-year-old girl. Plagued by Evelyn’s ghost, Celadore is joined by Sam, an overeager next door neighbor, and her old posse: Jams, a Frankenstein-like creature; Wax, Celadore’s ex-boyfriend; and Ness, Celadore’s business partner, tooth fairy and masseuse. Adventure, hilarity and surprises ensue in a world where even magic isn’t safe from capitalism.

If you’re looking for a book that combines magic, action, and remarkably entertaining characters, this is a book for you. And come on, who doesn’t want that?
