In a not-too-surprising move, it appears that Fox has picked up Mark Millar and Leinil Francis Yu’s “Superior” for a film adaptation, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Focusing on a young man with multiple-sclerosis, “Superior” follows the adventures of Simon Pooni as he is visited by a monkey from space who gives him the power to become his favorite movie superhero, Superior. The book itself is pretty much an iteration of Captain Marvel’s origin (the DC/Shazam iteration) and everything that makes Superman an inspirational figure mixed together, but it stands out from Millar’s recent body of work for perhaps being the most heartfelt and earnest love letter to comics he has done in quite sometime. Where most of Millar’s work focuses on blockbuster-style comics, “Superior” matches those bombastic moments with quite a lot of heart.

Making it into a movie makes a lot of sense, really. However, the only thing shocking here is that this movie somehow hadn’t been optioned already. I was pretty sure we lived in a world where Millar comics are optioned before they’re even released!

No further details on the film are released, though Millar’s frequent film partner Matthew Vaughn is attached as a producer.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
