Ok, so — Multiversity started as a place for me to talk about X-Men Origins: Wolverine and why I liked it, yadda yadda yadda, most people who read this site know this by now. I even liked the second one. And today, thanks to a report at Deadline, it looks like I can get ready to like a third film as well.

With anticipation for X-Men: Days of Future Past at an all-time high, it looks like Fox is jumping head first into the prospect of getting good ol’ Hugh Jackman to once again reprise his role as the ol’ Canucklehead in a third Wolverine-centric film with James Mangold, who directed The Wolverine. Making over three times its budget in the worldwide box office, it brought Wolverine both to a place that is sequel friendly and franchise friendly, offering up a tie-in to the upcoming Future Past film in the stinger.

So as it stands, Mangold is working on a deal to write the treatment for the film with Lauren Shuler Donner producing, who has been at the producing helm of the X-Men franchise. While the potential story hasn’t been revealed, I’d be more than happy to see Mangold bring the same level of intimacy in character to Logan that he did in the Wolverine. And for Jackman to reprise the role again is always exciting, as his love and excitement towards the character can only be rivaled by Hiddleston’s Loki.

So sign me up for Wolverine 3 or whatever it ends up being called, and it looks like Multiversity gets to keep on chugging for another few years while we wait for the chance to review the film.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
