Image Comics have made several announcements ahead of the release of their July 2024 solicits, including Kurt Busiek, Fabian Nicieza and Stephen Mooney’s new superhero series “Free Agents,” and a second arc and spin-off for Chip Zdarsky’s “Public Domain.”

– “Free Agents,” an ongoing written by Busiek and Nicieza with art by Mooney, colors by Triona Tree Farrell, and letterer Tyler Smith, follows a group of retired young heroes, now trying to lead normal lives on Earth after surviving an interdimensional war: Salvo, Pike, Katari, Shakti, Ridge, Maraud, and Chalice. “But when relics from their long war appear, threatening their chance at better lives, their greatest battle begins. They’ve fought for a million planets. Can they fight to save their own souls?” The oversized first issue will be released on July 3 with a main cover by Mooney, and variants by Erik Larsen, Pete Woods, and Kevin Maguire (who will provide a character-specific portrait for each issue.)
– “The Domain,” written by Zdarsky with art by Rachael Stott and colors by Eren Angiolini. It will portray the titular superhero at the center of “Public Domain,” which also returns with a new arc, where Syd Dallas (the character’s creator) finds himself in a race against time to reboot the series, “before Jerry Jasper and Singular Comics beat him to it.” The synopsis adds, “His sons Miles and David have a complicated relationship with both the creation and their creator. Can they come together and create a comic worthy of Syd’s legacy?” “Public Domain” #6 goes on sale on July 3, while “The Domain” will debut on July 10.
– “Heretic,” a historical murder mystery by writer Robbie Morrison and artist Charlie Adlard. The black-and-white OGN is set in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1529, and follows polymath Cornelius Agrippa and his student Johann Weyer after they’re ordered by the Inquisition to investigate a series of occult killings. The book is described as a cross between Sherlock Holmes, The Name of the Rose, and other historical thrillers like The Historian and The Alienist. It will be released in comics shops on October 16, and bookstores on October 29.
