Fresh Comics – The App You Didn’t Know You Needed (Until Right Now)

At least, I assume you didn’t know. I’ve had the test/beta on my iPhone for a while now (thanks to being able to get a test version some time ago), but busted it open yesterday just for funsies. Looks like the full version has rolled out – and now I’d like to tell you about it.

The basic jist is this: Fresh Comics is an app for the iPhone and the Android that allows you to look at both this week’s comics and where to get them from the convenience of your mobile device. Allowing you to select your favorite writers and books to track titles, the app is updated weekly with what books will be in store that week.

On top of that, it gives you the option to look at all the stores in your immediate radius, their distance in miles, and if they’re open or not. From there you can look at each individual stores, get directions, check the stores website, as well as see what the store looks like to help you keep your eyes on the lookout for the store.

Essentially: if you’re a comic fan who travels a lot (or perhaps even just a little bit), this is an app you assuredly need on your mobile. Even if you use that nifty comiXology app to maintain your pull list, it helps to have an on-the-go app to tell you where your nearest comic shop is. On top of that, version 2.0.5 is going to role out soon, and – while this may be spoiling something – I do know that there are plans for the app to work in unison with stores to give you deals in store (so retailers, if you’re reading this, be sure to send Audacious Software an e-mail to ask about this).

If you’d like to download the app, be sure to get it either for your iPhone or your Android phone. You can also check out the Fresh Comics site right here. As far as I know the app only works in the US and Canada, but I assume it’ll go more global before you know it.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
