Now is the time where we get to start seeing what television has in store for us for the future, with NBC, ABC, FOX et al debuting cinema-grade trailers of their upcoming programs to entice and tease potential viewers. And while the 30-second spot that premiered with Once Upon A Time got buzz going, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s full two and a half minute trailer is certainly going to get fans and more excited for Marvel’s ambitious television/film shared-universe.

I can say this: I went from being on the fence about watching this show to being completely, 100% in for it. The big trailer shows a lot, but nothing that is going to ruin the show itself (spoiler alert: Coulson isn’t dead! shocking!), and it does a great job showing that Whedon’s presence will certainly be felt. Great character work, trademark wit, a real mission statement and more are obviously present, and you can already see how the Marvel film universe’s tendrils will impact this show and vice versa. It looks like this show is loaded with breakout characters, from everyman Agent Ward to Ming Na Wen’s epically badass femme fatale. This show is going to be a mega hit, no matter what, but now? It’s looking like it will be a damn enjoyable show on top of it.

If this is executed well, it’ll be a complete game changer in terms of how people absorb their media of this fashion, as it (to my knowledge, anyway) is something that has never been done. Sure, there have been movies after shows and shows after movies, but never anything running in tandem. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out when S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts in September, a few short months before Thor: Dark World hits theaters.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
