DC Comics has announced “Future State: Gotham,” an ongoing series beginning in May that follows the ‘Future State’ timeline and the story of the Magistrate’s control of Gotham City.
In the first arc, Red Hood, the former Robin Jason Todd, continues in his role as bounty hunter for the paramilitary forces that now rule Gotham City, as seen in a two-part story in “Future State: Dark Detective.” Writers Joshua Williamson and Dennis Culver, with artist Giannis Milonogiannis, will handle creative duties on the series’ first six-issue story arc, ‘Hunt the Next Batman.’ Williamson and Milonogiannis were the creators behind the “Dark Detective” backups; it is presumed that new characters will lead subsequent arcs by different creative teams. The series will be presented in stark black-and-white.
‘Hunt the Next Batman’ sees Todd hot on the trail of Tim Fox, the Next Batman of DC’s ‘Future State,’ in a story that will feature the entire cast of the dystopian Bat-universe. Major players from the other ‘Future State’ books, including “Harley Quinn,” “Robin Eternal,” “Nightwing,” and of course “The Next Batman,” will all make appearances, as the Red Hood stalks his prey through his titular home city. And Gotham’s name being in the title is no accident. DC and the creative team hope the series will present it as a living, breathing member of the Bat-family: the stark black-and-white artwork of the series was part of this decision, meant to capture the gritty and noir-ish atmosphere of the DC Universe’s most dangerous urban center.

Issue #1 will be available in stores and digitally on May 11. The 32-page book will retail for $3.99, with cover art by Yasmine Putri. A special card stock variant cover by James Stokoe will also be available in shops and participating digital retailers for $4.99.
