IDW Publishing has announced “G.I. Joe,” a new, ongoing series created by writer Paul Allor, artist Chris Evenhuis, and colorist Brittany Peer. As revealed in a fun little press release that touts the comic as anarchist propaganda against G.I. Joe’s nemesis, Cobra, the series takes place in a world where Conrad S. Hauser (“Code Name: DUKE”) and Shana M. O’Hara (“Code Name: SCARLETT”) are underground fighters resisting the Cobra World Order.

Paul Allor revealed on his Twitter account that this series will be a “complete reboot” from the past continuity. IDW’s previous G.I. Joe comics series, which crossed over with their Transformers titles, concluded with the rest of that universe in last year’s miniseries “Transformers: Unicron.”

According to Allor, “this story is inspired both by modern warfare – where non-state actors fight vastly overpowered militaries to a perpetual standstill – and World War II, where Great Britain’s SOE recruited civilians behind enemy lines.” He added that “old-school G.I. Joe fans will absolutely love it and find it true to everything G.I. Joe stands for, and new folks will be attracted to a deeply character-driven tale of hope and humanity, and about the power of resilience in an increasingly unraveling world.”

The rebooted “G.I. Joe” is set to debut in stores this September. The new comic series will also feature cover variants created by artists Dustin Weaver and Eleanora Carlini.
