According to Gail Simone on Twitter…well, let’s let her say it.
Later, she added about making a statement today or tomorrow, but for now it appears Simone is just “baffled and sad” about the whole deal. She did add her love for Babara Gordon, which makes the whole thing even stranger.
I’m sure we’ll find out more about the why’s and wherefore’s behind this, but on the surface its perplexing. It’s the perfect marriage of character and writer, someone who is clearly passionate about the character and her legacy, in turn earning the adoration of her considerable fanbase. It’s an awfully strange time at DC, especially considering you could make a pretty strong argument that as of two weeks ago, Simone was the second biggest creative force in terms of women at DC – only behind the recently departed Karen Berger.
Once again, I’m sure we’ll find out more later, but it seems like a pretty unceremonious and disrespectful way to let someone go at the very least. Of course, Simone has a fervent audience who supports her (see her recently hugely successful Kickstarter), and she’s so damn talented we know she’ll land on her feet sooner rather than later.
As an additional note, MC’s resident X-Fan Brandon Burpee suggests to Marvel that they should sign her and Emanuela Lupacchino to work on a Rogue book. Just sayin’.
Update: This is peculiar.
