“Generations: Shattered” #1 will hit shelves on January 5, 2021. The book will be an 80-page one-shot costing $9.99. Writers for the book include Dan Jurgens, Robert Venditti, and Andy Schmidt, while artists include Ivan Reis, Bryan Hitch, Kevin Nowlan, Aaron Lopresti, Fernando Pasarin, Paul Pelletier.
The book will also have a lead-in in September 15’s “Detective Comics” #1027, in a segment titled ‘Generations: Fractured,’ which “pits Batman against a would-be gang of museum vandals, led by Calendar Man. As the Dark Knight tries to stop him from torching priceless artifacts, a mysterious flash of light appears to break reality, and Batman finds that everything is different in Gotham, as he’s transported back to 1939!” ‘Generations: Fractured’ will be written and drawn by Dan Jurgens, with art assistance from Kevin Nowlan, both of whom are writers and artists on “Shattered.”
The plot of ‘Generations’ has gone through substantial rewrites during DC’s COVID-19-related shutdown, as confirmed by “Death Metal” writer Scott Snyder. The event was originally announced in February and oversaw by then-co-publisher Dan DiDio. It was scheduled for a May 2020 release to coincide with Free Comic Book Day. The series originally consisted of five monthly specials, with Scott Snyder and Bryan Hitch’s backup in “Wonder Woman” #750 serving as its prelude. That role will now be served by ‘Fractured’ in “Detective.”
“The Generation series of specials are built to bring the new DC timeline to life,” DiDio said of the event before his exit of the company. He also touched on plans for the series to clean up DC continuity. “All of our greatest stories and events will create the backdrop and context for the great new adventures we have planned. Everything counts, and we guarantee there’ll be surprises along the way!” It is unknown if the event still has five total issues planned.
