Wow, that’s an odd headline, isn’t it?
So it looks like Geoff Johns and Jim Lee are stepping right up to the bat in trying to push DC in new directions! I’ve never heard of this being done before in the world of comics, but both creators will be live tweeting their readings of First Wave issue #1 (on sale this Wednesday) with the idea that you can participate in their reading! It’ll start at 3PM PST and last as long as it takes either of them to read through the book, pause, and tweet each deet.
First Wave is the brand new mini-series by Brian Azzarello and Rags Morales detailing the early days of DCU Continuity, specifically the noir side. It’ll star The Spirit and Doc Savage, two characters who have been slowly rising and falling in popularity over the past decade with the recent rise in pulp comics, and will also feature the Bat Man in a side we haven’t seen in years. Those that grabbed the one-shot prelude already know that the tone for the series is great, and the book itself will spin off two new on-goings for the Spirit (which will hopefully be better than the last) and Doc Savage.
As far as the tweeting goes, this seems like such an odd idea to me, but it could be fun. Many celebrities already do live tweet and response sessions, such as Kevin Smith or Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter (who tweet as their show airs). Even Brian Bendis has been known to do heavy question and answer sessions on his twitter account, so to have two all-star names like Jim Lee and Geoff Johns both heavily tweeting with fans about how good First Wave is, it will definitely be a big boost for the title. Not that I think it needs it, consider the all star names that are attached to it, but it never hurts to give it a few more accolades!
Never the less, for those following @JimLee00 and @GeoffJohns0 on twitter, prepare for some spam this Wednesday. As for me, I’m just glad the Spirit will be written by a writer I actually like besides Darwyn Cooke!
