To celebrate its milestone 2,100th issue, “2000 AD” has commissioned legendary artist George Pérez (“Avengers,” “Wonder Woman”) to lend his pencils to the magazine for the very first time. Pérez will pencil a cover featuring Judge Dredd facing off against the Dark Judges, reports Newsarama.

While Pérez has drawn nearly every DC and Marvel character in existence, as well as numerous others, he has not drawn Judge Dredd or any other “2000 AD” character in an official capacity before. However, if this Pérez sketch owner is to be believed, Dredd’s been high on Pérez’s “To Draw” list for quite some time now.

For those unfamiliar with “2000 AD,” the weekly anthology has been running since 1977, focusing mainly on science fiction, though dabbling in many genres over its run. Judge Dredd is the most famous character in the script, although in the UK a number of characters/strips are quite well known. Duncan Jones recently announced his next film would be adapting “Rouge Trooper,” another 2000 AD creation. We at Multiversity are pretty fond of “2000 AD,” dedicating our “Multiver-City One” column to reviewing each week’s Prog (their name for the weekly issues) and each month’s Megazine (a larger, more Dredd-focused magazine).

Pérez won’t feature within the issue, but the magazine will include a new “Judge Dredd” story from the team of Rob Williams and Henry Flint, as well as “Brink: High Society” from Dan Abnett and INJ Culbard, “1812” from Ian Edginton and Dave Taylor, “Legion” from James Peaty and Colin MacNeil, and “Alpha and Omega” from Dan Abnett and Richard Elson. The publisher and the magazine have been celebrating milestone after milestone recently, with “2000 AD”‘s 2000th issue in 2016 and the publisher’s 40th anniversary just last year.

The landmark “2000 AD” #2100 releases Sept. 25 overseas and October 17 in the U.S.
