Get a Look At the New POWER MAN

I suppose this week is Marvel’s week for Shadowland announcements, with yesterday marching the first tie-in and today marking the second:

Luke Cage is off starring in his own mini-series and leading the Thunderbolts in the wake of Siege, but it looks like someone else has decided to take up his old mantle (sans tiara).

The all new Power Man will appear in a mini series this August, written by Fred Van Lente and arted by Mahmud Asrar. The new Power Man is a teenager who looks like he would be at home at Avengers Academy, and is described as “(having) ties to both Iron Fist and Luke Cage, with a slew of newly revived street villains and a power set and origin that links him to Bullseye.” Hmm.

Fred Van Lente does a bit of gossiping about the book which is fairly revealing to what we can expect:

The catchphrase for the Shadowland event is “The Battle for the Soul of New York.” And I think the more we learn about Power Man, the more we come to understand that he is, in fact, the soul of New York.

A new Power Man comes on the scene, a hero for hire who advertises on the internet, of course, where all good classifieds can be found now. Unfortunately for him, this is not good timing for becoming a superhero in New York City, because in the areas controlled by Daredevil and The Hand, they have forbidden all, what they call, “costumes” to operate without their sanction.

So he has the Hand after him, and he also has Luke Cage and Iron Fist after him, ostensibly to save him, but also to find out who he is and what the heck he thinks he’s doing. Is he going to join The Hand? Is he going to ally himself with Daredevil? Or will he ally himself with the heroes who are attempting to stop Daredevil before he goes insane with power?

A teenaged costumed hero advertising himself on the internet? Sounds like a movie I saw once. Never the less, I always have faith in Fred Van Lente to tell a snarky and compelling tale and I would imagine that this could be fairly intriguing. This doesn’t look to be AS close to the events of Shadowland like Blood On The Streets, but never the less. Look for it in stores and on our site for reviews in August.

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
