Giant Evil Osama bin Laden To Appear In Savage Dragon

In a recent interview with USA Today (quickly become a hotbed of controversial comic-related news), it appears that Image and Erik Larsen have announced that Osama bin Laden, after just recently being found by American troops, will “return” in the pages of Savage Dragon #177.

Apparently the result of an interview joke, Larsen has taken on the task of bringing back a real life villain in comic book land. Essentially like the origin of Godzilla, after being dumped into the water Osama’s body is irradiated by unknown sources in the water and mutated into the giant green monster hellbent on destroying America, at which point Dragon’s kids Malcolm and Angel have to step up to the plate to defeat him. Larsen is quoted as saying, “Radiation is the cure-all. You get some of that stuff and life is good. In the real world, you get diarrhea and your hair falls out. But in comics – boom! – you’re brought right back to life,” adding that the comic as a whole will be a send-up of goofy old Atlas comics, which implies that the issue will be a fair amount of silly fun.

This wouldn’t be the first time Osama has “appeared” in the comic, having been punched out on the cover of issue #145 by Obama. Although Larsen does say he expects a few people to cry out that this might be too soon a move for the recently deceased villain. Then again, it is comics after all; people die and return a month later all the time!

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
