Free comics are always a good thing, but free comics coming from Top Shelf Productions and the writer/artist team of Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover? That’s a great thing.

Today, Paul and Colleen’s upcoming graphic novel Gingerbread Girl had its first three pages released on Top Shelf 2.0 (Top Shelf’s webcomics site), and Top Shelf will be posting new mini-chapters every Monday and Friday until the release in May. Given the talent of these two creators, comic fans should not miss this book both in web and print form.

So what’s it about? Top Shelf’s press release says:

Gingerbread Girl is the story of one adorable and bewildering girl, Annah Billips, and the exasperated attempts by everyone around (boyfriends, girlfriends, neighbors, bystanders, passing animals) to figure out what makes her tick.

Check out the full press release after the jump, and make sure to catch these updates every Monday and Friday.

Press Release:

You may know Colleen Coover & Paul Tobin from the fabulous talking-monkey adventure Banana Sunday, the adorably erotic Small Favors, or the wonderful work they’ve done with Marvel superheroes. But here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor of the newest project by this dynamic duo!

Today, we’re launching a brand-new graphic novel by Paul & Colleen, online, for free, on our webcomics site Top Shelf 2.0! It’s called Gingerbread Girl, and we’ll run a new mini-chapter every Monday and Friday for the next several months, culminating in the book’s release as a beautiful hardcover this spring! Can’t beat that with a stick.

But hey, you ask, what’s it about? Gingerbread Girl is the story of one adorable and bewildering girl, Annah Billips, and the exasperated attempts by everyone around (boyfriends, girlfriends, neighbors, bystanders, passing animals) to figure out what makes her tick. That’s all we can tell you — for more, you’ll just have to read the story!
