AfterShock Comics announced “Girls of Dimension 13,” a new series from veteran comic creator artist/writer Graham Nolan (“”Detective Comics,” “Metamorpho”) and artist Bret Blevins (“New Mutants,” “Harley Quinn”). Nolan, co-creator of Bane and one of the more lauded comic artists of his time, will be writing the series. The first issue drops on April 21, 2021.
In the press release, found below, Nolan mentions that, inspired by his three daughters, he wanted to do a “story about girl empowerment with the visual craziness of Ditko’s Dr. Strange but with the heart and warmth of the classic Alex Kotzky comic strip ‘The Girls of Apt. 3-G.’” The plot is described as follows:
Four young women are brought together by a mysterious invitation to live in a creepy building in NYC. They soon learn that the building houses a portal to the other twelve known dimensions, and that a malevolent creature known as Abraxis has bound these dimensions together, enslaving them to his will. For centuries, the portal has been guarded by a gatekeeper to prevent the evil on the other side from gaining access to OUR dimension.
Nolan has moved more into writing since the mid-90s, writing and illustrating “Joe Frankenstein” for IDW, his creator-owned titled “Monster Island,” and “The Phantom” Sunday newspaper comic strip from King Features Syndicate. Blevins, in addition to his comics work, has found success doing storyboards for animation, including Emmy wins for his contributions to series like Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Blevins’s last notable comic work was the Image series “Stellar” with Joe Keatinge.

Now the gatekeeper, Anna Nightlinger, is missing, and the only thing standing in Abraxis’ way is a quartet of young women with powers and abilities they don’t even know they have…for now.
Written by Inkpot Award-winning writer/artist Graham Nolan (The Chenoo, Return to Monster Island, co-creator of Bane) and illustrated by Emmy Award-winning artist, Bret Blevins (Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League), GIRLS OF DIMENSION 13 is a fantasy tale of discovery and empowerment, proving that sometimes all you need is a little help from your friends.
GRAHAM NOLAN ON WHAT THE STORY IS ABOUT AND WHY HE IS EXCITED FOR IT TO COME OUT:
“Four young women are brought by a mysterious invitation to room together in a strange building in NYC. The building is a nexus point. A portal to the 12 other dimensions. A malevolent force known as Abraxis binds these dimensions together. Enslaving them to his will. For centuries, the portal has been guarded by a gatekeeper to prevent the forces of evil on the other side from gaining access to the world we know. To OUR dimension. Now, the gatekeeper, Anna Nightlinger is missing and the only thing standing in Abraxis’ way is four young women with powers and abilities they don’t even know they have…for now!”
GRAHAM NOLAN ON SOME OF HIS INSPIRATIONS BEHIND CREATING THIS BOOK:
“As the father of 3 daughters I wanted to do a story about girl empowerment with the visual craziness of Ditko’s Dr. Strange but with the heart and warmth of the classic Alex Kotzky comic strip ‘The Girls of Apt. 3-G’.”
GRAHAM NOLAN ON 3 REASONS WHY COMIC READERS SHOULD PICK THIS BOOK UP:
“1-It’s fun
2-It’s entertaining
3-There are no polemics or messages hitting you over the head. The way comics used to be!”
