Via ComicBook.com, Dark Horse Comics have announced “God of War: Fallen God,” a new series in the violent mythology-inspired video game franchise. Set shortly after 2010’s God of War III, “Fallen God” will follow Kratos after he gained his revenge on Zeus and much of the rest of the Greek gods.

“Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage,” reads the synopsis, “he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame, only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind. Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable — himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness.”

The comic will reunite the creative team behind 2018’s “God of War” comic (which took place shortly before that year’s PlayStation 4 follow-up), namely writer Chris Roberson, artist Tony Parker, colorist Dan Jackson, and letterer John Roshell. The announcement comes during the 15th anniversary of the original God of War, which was released for the PlayStation 2 in North America on March 22, 2005. This will be only the third comics series in the franchise, following Dark Horse and Roberson et al.’s last entry, and Marv Wolfman and Andrea Sorrentino’s 2010 origin story (which was published by WildStorm and DC).

“God of War: Fallen God” #1 will be released digitally and physically on June 24, 2020.
