Via IGN, BOOM! Studios and IDW Publishing are partnering to bring two iconic franchises together. The publishers have announced “Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” a five-issue crossover written by Cullen Bunn with art by Freddie Williams II. Andrew Dalhouse will provide colors.

The series will see classic Rangers antagonist Rita Repulsa transported to an alternate dimension, seeking a reality without the teenagers with attitude. But not only do the Rangers follow her, she discovers a world of aliens and kaiju, bringing both the Megazord and Rita’s minions into conflict with the King of Monsters himself.

“I’ve been a massive Godzilla fan since before I could read, and my love for the King of Monsters has never faded in all those years,” Bunn says of the project. “Likewise, I’ve always loved Tokusatsu superheroics, and vividly remember watching the first episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when it came out. This is a crossover that I suspect will take readers by surprise — but it makes complete sense!” This will not be Bunn’s first comic to star the King of Monsters, having written the five-issue “Godzilla: Cataclysm” for IDW in 2014.

Williams, who has experience with crossovers, providing art for both “Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “He-Man/ThunderCats,” calls the project the “biggest, most stratospheric crossover” he has ever drawn. “I’ve been watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episodes and Godzilla films to submerge my brain space, and have been reminded how fantastic and charming these designs are and how much fun prior creators had with their designs,” he adds. “I’m excited to contribute to the long legacies of these franchises!”

“Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” #1 is scheduled to hit shelves in March 2022.
