The aforementioned Official Image

According to a report via Newsarama, Gotham will be adding Corey Michael Smith as Edward Nygma, Victoria Cartagena as Renee Montoya and Andrew Stewart-Jones as Crispus Allen to the series as series regulars. All three characters/actors apparently have at least cameo roles in the pilot episode and the latter two certainly serve to make the show even more “Gotham Central-y.”

What’s interesting is that Nygma’s role is apparently described as “a brilliant but socially awkward forensic scientist who’s eccentric and outgoing and desperate to be liked.” It certainly fits his persona, granted, but what’s noteworthy is that this means that he doesn’t actually have to be a villain; he can instead occupy a different trope completely, at least for the time being. Considering that all signs towards Oswald Cobblepot being the Big Bad of the show, it’s a neat idea to seed a character that can be developed overtime into something more nefarious.

Last but certainly not least, it appears that Gotham will be airing Monday nights at 8 PM, which certainly fits for my schedule. And, for what it’s worth, allows (so far) for at least one comic book show a night with Walking Dead on Sunday, Gotham on Monday, SHIELD on Tuesday and Arrow on Wednesday. It’ll be interesting to see when the shows begin to compete more, but for now your DVR can relax.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
