If you haven’t been watching Alex Hirsch’s Gravity Falls on Disney Channel then you have been missing out on one of the funniest and most intriguing cartoons of the decade. If you have been watching Gravity Falls, then you are also missing out since the season one finale almost a full year ago. Finally, after so long, Disney released three trailers for the cult hit’s second season which is now airing on August 4th, instead of the 1st, presumably to avoid the competition that Guardians of the Galaxy would’ve brought. At least the Monday night timeslot may hopefully mean the show will get better ratings than it did with its previous Friday timeslot.

When Gravity Falls premiered in 2012 it swiftly gained a large following with funny one liners, endearing characters, and a greater mystery hinted at through the show’s use of cryptography (if you play the theme song backwards, a voice whispers “three letters back” which decodes the cryptograms in the end credits of each episode). Gravity Falls revolves around Mabel and Dipper Pines, twins who’ve been sent to live with their great uncle (Grunkle) Stan for the summer at his museum, The Mystery Shack. Soon enough, Dipper discovers a hidden journal that details the actual mysteries and monsters hiding in the town of Gravity Falls, including an army of gnomes, video game characters brought to life, and the 8 1/2th president of the United States.

A lot of fans are anticipating the new season, especially with the giant cliffhanger the last episode capped off with. Without going into spoilers, it’s safe to say that the relationship between The Pines family is going to go under some heavy strain. Be sure to check out Multiversity’s ongoing coverage of the second season of Gravity Falls once the second season premieres this Friday. We’re definitely excited, especially since the trailers confirmed the return of Dream Boy High stars Xyler and Chaz. They’re soooo dreamy!

Update: As our commentators (one of them being Gravity Falls antagonist Gideon Gleeful) noted, the season premiere will still occur on Disney Channel on August 1st! However the show will then show the first two episodes on Disney XD and air on the Monday timeslot there.
