Green Lantern 2 and The Flash Both "In The Works"

Green Lantern isn’t even out yet, but DC Entertainment has a TON of faith in it. How much faith? Well, the trio that wrote the first movie (Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim) has already been contracted to write a sequel for it, according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter. DC execs are seriously banking on the Green Lantern franchise at the moment, what with both the upcoming film and animated series on Cartoon Network, and given the success of the book it’s really of no surprise. It shows tremendous enthusiasm on DC and Warner Bros part, because a move like this is usually quite rare.

However, what’s even more exciting than that is that a comic which has been in development hell for years will also begin to see the light of day – The Flash! The trio that wrote Green Lantern are also going to be taking their pens to the Scarlet Speedster under the watchful eye of Geoff Johns, who is currently writing the on-going series (as well as all things Green Lantern). The movie will focus on Barry Allen and be influenced by what Geoff Johns is currently doing with the character, according to the report, and by that I imagine that it will deal less with time traveling rogues and more with Johns’ reinvention of what the speed force actually is.

So along with a new Superman and Batman movie from the Nolan side of the DC film ‘verse, expect to see more Green Lantern and Flash from the Johns tent. I’d imagine that you might be hearing about a Shazam movie soon as well, as that’s another movie that Johns had reported working on in the past.

What characters do you think deserve movies? Let us know your thoughts on Green Lantern 2 and Flash in the comments!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
