Green Lantern Wraps; Two Sequels Greenlit?

As tweeted last night by executive producer Geoff Johns, the live action adaptation of Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds has wrapped up it’s final shot and is about to go into post-production. Three cheers all around, as we are all undoubtedly excited for June 2011.

In a bit of additional news, it looks like two sequels may already be in production. According to Latino Review, the two sequels are set to be in full production mode by the time the first film hits theaters. Supposedly, the source says that the plan is to have one Green Lantern movie a year, so the two sequels would be 2012 and 2013 respectively, making it an epic trilogy of sorts. One can only imagine what will be in the first film now, if such a large scale plan is already into works. We know that Parallax is in the film… will the Sinestro Corps appear in the second? Or perhaps a live adaptation of the Sinestro Corps War in the third? Or… LIVE ACTION LARFLEEZE?

While everything is admittedly speculation at this point, it is pretty interesting to see Warner Bros. putting such faith into a film that’s not even released yet. While they assuredly had great success with the new Batman franchise, we have no real idea what to expect with Green Lantern at this point, so perhaps it could be the next Superman Returns? Who knows. Only time will tell, as the first film comes out June 2011. We’ll let you know any more information as we get it.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
