Green Wake Ending At Issue 10, Sadness Quickly Ensues

We normally don’t do news on the weekend, but occasionally there are things we have to share. This is one of those.

We at Multiversity are big fans of Kurtis Wiebe and Riley Rossmo’s Green Wake. We were increasingly excited when it became an ongoing, pleased to find out it was going to run 25 issues, and urged you to check out the new arc. We’ve even chatted with Wiebe about the series, which only served to to convince us of its greatness further. If you can’t tell — we’re big fans of Green Wake.

And now, in a blog post posted earlier today, Wiebe has announced that Green Wake is only making it up to issue #10. Cue our infinite sadness.

Why the change? One word: sales. As Wiebe writes on his blog,

Indie books live and die by numbers and while we received universally stellar reviews, it didn’t translate into sales. While we wanted to continue on, we simply couldn’t afford to do it anymore. We had to come to a very tough decision and this was the ultimate result. I truly hope you understand.

It’s incredibly unfortunate to hear, but Wiebe does note that he is pleased with the resolution, and that he believes they have done a good job of explaining all the secrets in an accurate way.

Wiebe notes that he and Rossmo have further plans for a book tentatively titled Debris, which he describes as “like Red Sonja fighting Transformers in a dystopian Miyazaki world.” He also has a book coming out February 15th entitled Peter Panzerfaust which we just chatted about with him, and urge you to check out as well. Additionally, Rossmo has a 4-issue mini that he co-wrote with Alex Link entitled Rebel Blood, with the first issue out March 28th.

To close, one final quote from Kurtis:

This is my message: if you like a series, tell everyone. If they won’t buy it for themselves, buy the first issue for them. Give comics as gifts, get your friends and coworkers on board.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
