Batman: The Dark Knight #8, in April

Amongst a slew of other creative switcheroos scheduled, DC announced on the Source this morning that Greg Hurwitz will be joining David Finch as the writer come June’s issue #10.

Hurwitz is currently writing the mini Penguin: Pain and Prejudice with artist Szymon Kudranski, a critically acclaimed dark take on the Penguin within the confines of the DCnU. Our own Brian Salvatore praised the book‘s most recent issue, writing, “Hurwitz and Kudranski have presented a model miniseries: take a character that probably couldn’t carry his own title, write a definitive story, illustrate the shit out of it, and leave the people wanting more. I never thought I would say this, but I would read a Penguin ongoing if this creative team were on board. If you have any doubt whether or not you should pick up this book, I will leave you with this: in issue #3, you find out why the Penguin carries an umbrella, and it makes total sense.”

I will always fondly remember Greg Hurwitz from Vengeance of the Moon Knight, however, which I used to actively praise back in the day. Suffice it to say, Hurwitz is a pretty good fit for a Batman book, if you like your Batman books full of grit and grime, leaving gravel and dirt underneath your fingertips by the time you finish reading. Truthfully, though, we assume we had you at “Batman.”

David Finch will stay on board as series co-plotter and artist, and the first issue of Hurwitz’s run begins in June. The final issue of Penguin: Pain and Prejudice comes out next week.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
