Spoilers for today’s issue of “All New X-Men” follow, I’m afraid. Sorry about that; it’s a bit unavoidable here. Don’t worry, though — I had my comic spoiled so I could report the news to you, so I’m feeling the pain for both of us.

Ok. Are you ready? Here’s the cover:

Announced today over at CBR, it looks like Greg Rucka is returning to Marvel in order to write the new ongoing adventures of Cyclops, with artist Russel Dauterman. Following Cyclops after the events of the latest issue of “All-New X-Men” on sale today, it appears that Corsair is actually still alive despite dying in 2007’s Shi’ar event storyline. Cyclops and Corsair then go on an outer-space road trip in what inherently sounds like it’d be a mini, but no, it’s a full-blown ongoing, my friends. It’ll be a father/son oriented book that Rucka notes will be written from a very personal place, and if nothing else that alone should make it a very interesting read.

It’s an interesting pair regardless, though, seeing as Rucka had ostensibly given up on doing for-hire work and was pursuing creator-owned comics full time after his “Punisher” run was cancelled. Not only that, but it’s even more interesting seeing as Dauterman is a former DC artist. So whatever Marvel has going on behind the scenes must be either really great, or involve intimate knowledge of where bodies are buried.

Either way, Dauterman and Rucka sound like a great team and I’d imagine “CYCLOPS IN SPAAAACCEEE!” is an easy sell to more than just myself. I’ve been itching for Marvel to have a Cyclops ongoing for years now, so to give the younger reincarnation that opportunity is an certainly an intriguing move — and one we’ll assuredly be watching.

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
