A red-band trailer for The Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s follow-up to the divisive 2016 DC Comics movie and Birds of Prey, has been released:

The trailer introduces and reintroduces almost every character in the film, from the returning Margot Robbie as Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, to the (mostly) new recruits, like Idris Elba’s mercenary Bloodsport; John Cena’s Peacemaker; Michael Rooker’s Savant; Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher; the gross mutant Weasel, played by Sean Gunn; Peter Capaldi’s cyborg Thinker; David Dastmalchian’s depressed Polka-Dot Man; and the simple but ferocious King Shark (apparently voiced by Sylvester Stallone).

There’s F-bombs, gore, and even nudity (courtesy of Weasel), plus brief glimpses of Pete Davidson as Blackguard; Nathan Fillion as T.D.K; Mayling Ng as the alien Mongal; Flula Borg as Javelin; Alice Braga as Sol Soria; and Joaquín Cosío as Mateo Suárez, the Major General of Corto Maltese. No sign of Taika Waititi’s character, or Tyla, Bloodsport’s daughter (played by Storm Reid), but the trailer does concludes by revealing who Task Force X’s apparent main target is this time round: it’s none other than Starro, the giant, mind-controling alien starfish, who was the first foe the Justice League ever faced off against in the comics.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters, and at no additional cost on HBO Max (for one month only), on August 6, 2021. In the meantime, you can also check out the various posters have been released, from a vintage ensemble aping The Dirty Dozen, to a more mainstream one, plus several character posters.
