Image Comics have announced Zoe Thorogood will write and draw “Hack/Slash: Back to School,” a new, four-issue series starring Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli’s monster slayer Cassie Hack. The comic will take readers back to Cassie’s high school years, when she is still “only just getting used to her man-monster partner, Vlad,” as she gets drawn “into a new case involving a murderous bunny mascot, dead kids, and an entire squad of maladjusted teenage serial-killer hunters.”

Seeley commented, “I’ve been a fan of Zoe’s work since I first saw her comics on Instagram. The fact that she’s not only an old school fan of ‘Hack/Slash,’ but had some big ideas for Cassie and Vlad makes co-creator Stefano Caselli and I proud as can be. She’s going to roll right out of the Eisner awards and tell the untold tales of our sexy slasher dramedy just in time for the 20th anniversary!”

Like Seeley says, the news comes ahead of this week’s Eisner Awards, where Thorogood has received five nominations (three for Joe Hill and David M. Booher’s “Rain,” and two for her memoir “It’s Lonely at the Centre of the Earth”, also published by Image. The book will arrive ahead of the 20th anniversary of the first “Hack/Slash” comic from 2004, and mark the first series since 2019’s crossover with “The Crow” (written by Seeley with art by Jim Terry), as well as the first main “Hack/Slash” comic since 2017-18’s “Hack/Slash: Resurrection” (written by Tini Howard with art by Celor.)

“Hack/Slash: Back to School” #1 will be released in physical and digital comics outlets shortly before Halloween on October 18, with three covers respectively by Thorogood, Seeley and Caselli. Readers can also expect to see Cassie guest star in Floating World Comics’ “Santos Sisters Halloween Special” (by Greg and Fake Petre), also due out October 18.
