Yesterday, news broke that DC was revamping a number of classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons into new series. Some of the books look like perfect fits – Evan “Doc” Shaner drawing Space Ghost anyone? – and some are a little more on the odd side (like Jim Lee taking on Scooby Doo). DC seem pretty high on the project, and Dan DiDio gives an admittedly great quote about the project: “Even if you were cynical about how we approached these things, you’re going to love everything once you see the finished product.”
That’s quite self-aware, especially for Danny D.
Comic Book Resources made a nice easy list of all the properties and creators that we know thus far:
“The Flintstones,” with designs by Amanda Conner and written by Mark Russell
“Wacky Race Land” by Mark Sexton and Ken Pontac
Jeff Parker and Evan “Doc” Shaner on “Future Quest,” starring the Hanna-Barbera action heroes (including Space Ghost and Jonny Quest)
“Scooby Apocalypse” from Jim Lee, Keith Giffen and Howard Porter
So, we want to know – is this something that excites our loyal readers? Or is this just another in a seemingly long line of comics rebooting old franchises, only to see them slip away in six months with little or no fanfare (Gold Key, King Features, Red Circle, First Wave). Take our poll, and then expand on those thoughts in the comments!
