Jim McCann is clearly beginning to work up his longterm Hawkeye story. Starting with New Avengers: The Reunion and working through Hawkeye and Mockingbird as well as the upcoming Widow Maker, it looks like Hawkeye’s story continues beyond that with Hawkeye: Blindspot, a four issue mini-series to take place after the events of Widow Maker.
While we don’t know what will come out of Widow Maker, we do know a few things. We know that someone is hunting assassins Black Widow and Mockingbird, and we know that a new Ronin appears. Of course, it’s the solicit for the series that really catches eyes, as McCann clearly knows how to grab attention. Take a look below:
Marvel is proud to announce HAWKEYE: BLINDSPOT #1 (of 4), an explosive new beginning for the Avenger’s greatest weaponeer! In the wake of the shocking Widowmaker, Clint Barton is living out a fate worse than death. With his greatest skill now a terrible curse, Hawkeye will have to face down his past sins to forge a new future…but even the man with Marvel’s deadliest aim can’t always see what’s coming!
“If you think Hawkeye has been through it all, think again” says writer, Jim McCann. “Forget Disassembled, House of M, and Siege- THIS is the biggest turning point in Hawkeye’s life– a story that will change and define the Avenging Archer for life!”
Hmm. His skill is now a curse? How does that work? Hawkeye’s skill is his ability with a bow and arrow, but is it possible that he loses his talent at the end of Widow Maker for some reason? We can see Mockingbird as well as Black Widow both appear on the cover, and so does some familiar faces from McCann’s current story with Hawkeye and Mockingbird – but Cap back in his original suit?
McCann is a trustworthy name when it comes to Hawkeye, so I’d wager this will be worth following for those of you who have enjoyed what’s come so far. Look for it in February.
