From Screen Rant, Vault Comics announced “HEAVY,” a new comic book series by writer Max Bemis, artist Eryk Donovan, colorist Cris Peter, and letterer Taylor Esposito set to begin on May 27. The psychedelic new series centers on Bill, a “dead man who polices the multiverse in order to reunite with the woman he loves.”

The series is set in a place called the Big Wait where everyone is assigned a job. As a Heavy, Bill polices the multiverse with his partner. With enough diligence, Bill is on track to earn a “Climb,” allowing him to reunite with his wife, but the afterlife is, of course, never that easy.

Drawing influence from Inception, “Preacher,” “Punisher,” and “The Invisibles,” writer Max Bemis says, “I wanted to write a comic akin to the weird, violent epics that were my favorites of all time. The only problem was that I hadn’t written a single issue of comics, and thus I didn’t have a single credit to my name. I took meetings and mulled over ideas from general thematic qualities to specific dialogue, but none of it came to fruition. Here I am now, more than ten years later, with quite a few books to my name, and I’m finally getting to tell the story that means the most to me. ‘HEAVY’ contains my wildest fears, hopes, self-criticisms and my own muddled vision of what reality means.”

Artist Eryk Donovan echoes Bemis and says that the themes of personal growth and a deeper understanding of the world ultimately drew him to the project. He says “Heavy” is “about what it means to find ourselves. It’s about the power and cruelty we wield over ourselves and each other, and how the ripples of that indelibly affect our hearts.”

In addition to the announcement, Screen Rant also has concept art and a variant cover for the first issue by Vault’s art director Nathan Gooden and VP/Branding & Design Tim Daniel.
