After it was leaked earlier today, Summit Entertainment have released the first trailer for Neil Marshall’s Hellboy movie reboot at IGN:
Although reportedly a darker, R-rated take on the character than Guillermo del Toro’s films, the trailer indicates a more comedic direction for Hellboy (David Harbour), with the character operating publicly and having to put up with fearful bystanders during his mission in London. However, certain shots of the monsters he’ll be battling in the film do indicate it will have significantly more blood than previous installments.
Also introduced in the trailer are Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive father Trevor Bruttenholm; Sasha Lane as his colleague Alice Monaghan; Daniel Dae Kim as mistrustful BPRD agent Ben Daimio; Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue; and Laila Morse (EastEnders) as a gun-toting BPRD agent working undercover at a fish and chip shop.
There’s also glimpses of King Arthur’s sword Excalibur, Baba Yaga’s house with chicken legs, and Alistair Petrie (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Lord Adam Glaren, a member of the Osiris Club that invites Hellboy to England, all of which are elements taken from the film’s source material (the storylines ‘Darkness Calls,’ ‘The Wild Hunt,’ and ‘The Storm and the Fury’).
Hellboy will be released in theaters on April 12, 2019.
