The Avengefuls

You may know Fred Hembeck from a variety of Marvel and DC parodies, but now Hembeck will be offering up his cartoonist sensibilities to BOOM!’s upcoming Avengefuls mini-series, which seeks to parody the Avengers franchise (just in time for this underground and not at all heavily promoted film starring some comic book characters and a handful of actors).

The series, written by Rich Johnston, will be four issues of one-shots and will appropriately lampoon the Avengers Trinity: Iron Muslim, illustrated by Bryan Turner; Captain American Idol, illustrated by Chris Haley; Scienthorlogy, illustrated by Michael Netzer; and the team book, the Avengefuls, illustrated by Joshua Covey. In addition to the variants shown here today, each book will come with a standard cover by Mark Stafford.

Given the entire theme of the book, who is there more appropriate than Hembeck to do variant covers? There is no one more appropriate than Hembeck, that’s who.

Look for the books in stores come April, and check after the cut for three more covers by Hembeck.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
