Official Press Release

What do you get when you take an ordinary house cat, blast it with cosmic radiation, and teach it to solve mysteries in space? You get a brand new series from indie-favorites Myron Hickson and Joe Eisma, that’s what!

Myron Hickson, known for his hit comics like Action Force 2019 and Control, is teaming up with Morning Glories artist Joe Eisma to tell the tale of comics’ latest and assuredly greatest new hero. “Writing books with subtle commentary on the nature of heroes was all very well and good, but I honestly felt it was time to move on to something closer to my passion: cats.”

Starring the eponymous hero, DETECTIVE SPACE CAT will feature high-flying adventures set on the backdrop of a war-torn galaxy looking for new heroes to lay hope in. “I absolutely love writing science fiction, and the fans have been incredibly receptive to my work as well, but to be honest I really just want to write a book that stars my cat Pixel, because he is my best friend and he deserves it.” Called into action by a galaxy in need, Detective Space Cat finds himself wrapped up in an epic mystery, pitting both sides of the galactic struggle against one another as everyone attempts to unlock one of the universe’s best kept secrets: Earth.

Hickson warns that despite the seemingly friendly hero and title, this is not an All-Ages book. “The book opens with Detective Space Cat strung out on space-nip, beating people up in a space bar with a dead baby… so I hope that sets the precedent of what the series has in store!” Hickson promises that the story will still be as involved and in depth as the stories before, but the new character and setting will certainly allow him more room to explore different story telling techniques he previously had not played with before. “If I had to describe it, it’d be somewhere between Fear Agent and Wonder Pets in depth and scope. It’s something I’m really excited for people to see.”

“I couldn’t be more excited about Detective Space Cat,” adds Joe Eisma, noting the intense labor of love that the series has been. “I was so sick of drawing hot girls in school uniforms, and I knew that the only thing that could fill that void would be a gripping mystery starring a feline from outer space.” Eisma assures fans that his work on Morning Glories will continue, but that fans should look forward to a much more exploratory style in DETECTIVE SPACE CAT.

“This is a book for people who love science fiction, but mostly for people who love cats. While I’m not sure how there are people who don’t love cats, hopefully this will turn a few people on to being pet owners.”

While DETECTIVE SPACE CAT does not have a specific home at any company yet, Hickson and Eisma are sure that they will have a deal locked in soon. Until then, however, the duo plan to self publish some of the work online at www.detectivespacecat.com. Once completed, DETECTIVE SPACE CAT #1 will debut a 32-page full color science-fction/thriller comic sure to appeal to fans of Blade Runner and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat, and will be availble for sale in a comic shop near you soon for $2.99.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
