The 2017 game Horizon Zero Dawn is making the leap to comics this summer under writer Anne Toole and artist Ann Maulina. Publisher Titan Comics will be telling the story of Talanah, a new hunter looking for purpose in her post-civilization, neolithic world.
“Fans are going to absolutely love the stories we have to tell of Talanah and Aloy as we expand the Horizon Zero Dawn universe in this new comic series,” said editor Tolly Mags. “I’m really excited to see their reaction when this explosive new story arrives.”
The story is set after the events of the game, as Talanah investigates the disappearance of original protagonist Aloy, grappling with the same machine-ruled 31st-century world of the game. As she travels, she experiences revelations about the new world she was born into and the newly emerging killers that are creeping into it. The series will have a prequel issue releasing as part of Free Comic Book Day (which has no set date following its COVID-19 related delay).
Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the biggest video games of 2017, with a PC release and tabletop edition on the way. It received the 2018 Writers Guild of America Award for Achievement in Videogame Writing, and the 2018 BAFTA Games Award for Original Property. Series writer Anne Toole was one of the game’s main writers.
“Horizon Zero Dawn” #1 releases July 22 with a cover by Artgerm.
