Readers will get a look into the inner machinations of the Order of St. George this October with “House of Slaughter,” from “Something is Killing the Children” co-creators James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera alongside writer Tate Brombal (“Barbalien: Red Planet,” “Wayward Kindred”) and artist Chris Shehan (“Autumnal,” “Hell Paso”). The BOOM! Studios series will feature colors by Miquel Muerto and lettering by AndWorld Design.

“Ever since our first glimpse of the House of Slaughter in ‘Something is Killing the Children’ #5, I knew that there was an entire world of monsters and monster hunters outside of Erica Slaughter’s story,” said Tynion. “Once the book grew into the juggernaut of a series it’s become, thanks to all of our incredible fans, I knew I wanted to start telling those stories. I’m so honored to have the incredible Tate Brombal and the phenomenal Chis Shehan joining us to tell this exciting new story introducing everyone to the hunters Erica grew up alongside, and the other Houses within the Order of St. George, while Werther and I start plotting out Erica’s next adventure!”

The series centers on fellow House of Slaughter alumni, Aaron Slaughter, who appeared regularly in the early chapters of “Something is Killing the Children” until his untimely demise. “House of Slaughter” takes a step back to Aaron’s teenage years, where readers will see his gruelling training in the House of Slaughter, and his forbidden romance with another hunter who is destined to be his rival.

“I am so honored (and excited!) that James and Werther have opened the illustrious halls of the ‘House of Slaughter’ to me,” said Brombal. “This world is overflowing with characters and tragedies just waiting to be explored, and I cannot wait to draw back the curtains and show you what monsters lurk there!”

“Something is Killing the Children” was one of the highest selling creator-owned comics of 2019 and 2020, winning an Eisner, Harvey and Ringo Award all in its first year. The comic was originally planned as a miniseries but has since expanded into an ongoing title, which is currently slated to run past its 20th issue. It was recently announced as well that the series will be adapted to TV for Netflix, by modern horror writer/director Mike Flanagan with producer Trevor Macy (who both worked on The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor).

“House of Slaughter” #1 will release October 2021 with two main covers by series artists Chris Shehan and Werther Dell’Edera, as well as a swathe of variants from Jenny Frison, Mike Del Mundo and an homage cover to Tynion’s “The Nice House on the Lake” by Alvaro Martinez Bueno. A Free Comic Book Day issue, “Enter the House of Slaughter” by Tynion and Dell’Edera, will be released ahead of the series on August 14.
