Just as his work on “Daredevil” with Chris Samnee is going back to #1 because #1s are all the rage, it looks like Mark Waid’s run on “Indestructible Hulk” will see a relaunch of its own this April.
Announced on CBR and teaming up with Mark Bagley, Waid’s “Indestructible Hulk” will simply become “Hulk” and will once again shake-up Banner’s world. With “Indestructible’s” last arc dealing with Inhumanity, Waid does not give too much information on why the relaunch other than that Banner and Hulk “will be divided in a way we’ve never seen before on a long-term basis, and those who are eager to see the Hulk once more be his “own” character will be very pleased.” Given the cover that was attached to the announcement (by Jerome Opena), it would appear something physical happens to Banner that forces Hulk to take the mantle on his own. “Get ready to learn a lot about Bruce Banner that you never knew. And get ready to see Hulk start doing something that we’ve NEVER seen.”
The only thing that is certain is that whatever happens in this new volume is tied directly to something that has been seeded in the background of the current run. As Waid mentions, Banner has been doing something through the background of “Indestructible,” something that ties all the way back to the second issue, so readers should start looking back to that for clues now.
Where this leaves Hulk’s current involvement with SHIELD and the time traveling exploits that are currently going on is uncertain, but I would wager fans of Waid’s current work with the series will be rather pleased. Plus, good time to hop in for anyone who hadn’t been keeping up with the title currently, so I guess everyone wins!
