Update, June 25, 2020:

Vault Comics has announced in a press release that they “will no longer be publishing ‘Hundred Wolves’ from writer Myke Cole.” The decision came after Cole admitted on Twitter that women had told him “publicly and privately” that he’d “made them feel uncomfortable or been inappropriate when drinking.” (The series had been delayed to September following the COVID-19-induced Diamond shutdown.)

Original story is as follows:

Myke Cole, an award-winning author mostly known for his modern and fantasy warfare novels, is making his comics debut with a historical warfare series at Vault Comics, titled “Hundred Wolves.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series takes place in 17th century Europe and follows protagonists Andrei and Oksana as they face the Hundred Wolves, a band of warriors that they once belonged to before retiring to care for their daughter. With one of the greatest battles of the Ottoman Empire on the horizon, Andrei and Oksana will not have an easy retirement.

Cole will be teaming up with artist Tony Akins (“Fables,” “Hellblazer,” “Wonder Woman”) to bring this historical warfare drama to life. Cole is known for his Shadow Ops novel series and his The Sacred Throne fantasy novel series. As a writer and historian, Cole described the Siege of Vienna in 1683 as one of the main inspirations behind the book, explaining “it arguably decided the future of the European and Turkish worlds both. And almost nobody has even heard of it.”

Akins told the Reporter that the collaboration was “a great experience,” stating, “I’m that brother from the South Side of Chicago who’s drawing a story about a family in 17th century Ukraine who are caught between a rock and a hard place. That translates to some of my own experiences as an American, and particularly as an African-American.”

The first issue of the series will be available in comic shops and digitally on April 29, 2020.
