Evidently it’s Marvel’s goal to craft enough Avengers teams to have every character in the Marvel universe on one of them, as today it was announced that New Avengers is being relaunched at #1 with Brian Michael Bendis writing and Stuart Immonen on art. To go along with Bendis and John Romita Jr. on Avengers and Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato on Secret Avengers, we are now up to at least three squads of Avengers.
The first character on the NA team is both a surprise and not a surprise at all: Luke Cage. He’ll be headlining the Thunderbolts book written by Jeff Parker as well, and then apparently using time zones and really fast jump jets to regularly side with the New Avengers. And he will take time out to be a loving husband and father as well. His quote on the image is “I’ve never backed down from a fight” but realistically, it should be “I’ve never said no to an invitation to a super team.” I mean come on, have you ever read Heroes for Hire? That guy says yes to everything.
