I AM The Spotlight!

Day two of the Avengers Academy castlist is upon us, and with it we have the reveal of Striker, another relatively unknown character. I don’t want to say that he’s a new character, because it appears that he is either a) a “new version” of an old character, or b) he’s just related to Living Lightning. Either way, this marks an interesting turn of events in that our first two days of casting do not feature any recognizable faces whatsoever. It’s a bad ass costume either way.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out on stands. I assume it will sell well for being an Avengers title, and with Gage as the writer I imagine it’ll be fairly good.

Update: Due to a series of text messages from someone who was more upset than James Cameron after he lost the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture to his ex-wife, I have decided to point out that Newsarama, the website that scooped the story, could be wrong about the connection of this character to Living Lightning, aka Miguel Santos. This person (who will remain nameless in order to protect his hurt, hurt feelings) pointed out that the character is probably related to Thunderstrike, also known as Eric Masterson, despite the fact that Thunderstrike is dead and his son is in a different universe.

Is Newsarama right? Is the guy texting me and whining like crazy because he wants to “out-nerd me” right? Considering that yesterday’s character was a brand new character for the book (as confirmed by Christos Gage), perhaps they’re BOTH wrong! We’ll see in June.

Also, if anyone wants to join the Thunderstrike fan club, feel free to contact our new writer Joshua Mocle to inquire for membership.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
