IDW Publishing will release a four-issue miniseries based on Netflix’s wrestling series GLOW. The comic will be written by Tini Howard (“Euthanauts” and “WWE”) with art by Hannah Templer (“Cosmoknights,” “Jem and the Holograms: Dimensions”). The show centers around Ruth “Zoya the Destroya” Wilder (played by Alison Brie), a dead-end, aspiring actress who gets sucked into director Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron)’s titular “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” troupe in 1980s Los Angeles. IDW’s “GLOW” comic is an original story pitting Wilder and her crew of kayfabe-choreography-dependent “wrestlers” against real women wrestlers in a charity match.

Howard commented enthusiastically on Twitter regarding the announcement, statingGLOW is one of my favorite shows with an amazing cast. Writing in their voices has been a BLAST so far. You wouldn’t believe how over it my inner Marc Maron voice is.” The “GLOW” comic will be overseen by show co-creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. In a statement accompanying the announcement, Mensch and Flahive said, “We’re thrilled to work with IDW to bring new stories to life on the page and in the ring. Can we smoosh 14 women into a little frame? Only time will tell… but we couldn’t be more excited!”

GLOW premiered on Netflix in June 2017 and has received both critical acclaim and a devoted fan base for its mix of wrestling action, dour sarcasm and peculiar — but richly human — characters. The comic serves to tide fans over as they anxiously anticipate an official announcement of the show’s third season. Look for the “GLOW” comic to premiere in March of 2019.
