Assumedly hot on the buzz off of Image Expo’s success, live on Image’s site today, Image has released over 40 of their books online for free.

That’s right — no strings attached, no money involved; just a whole lot of good DRM-free comics for you to enjoy right now, via their website. Since redesigning their site and turning it into a more central hub of Image news and titles at last year’s Image Expo, their stance on DRM-free comics put out on their terms has been a big aspect of Image’s continually re-defined identity; seeing them somewhat put their money where their mouths are and just give their various hit comics away for free is a very interesting endeavor.

And I don’t mean that in any kind of hyperbolic sentiment. These books are hits of varying kinds, and summed up are the reason that Image has become so popular. Not to add too much hype or over-sell it (as we at Multiversity are wont to do — apparently it’s our mantra or something), but this stands as a rather exciting show of faith for their line.

There is a lot here that I could honestly recommend, too. “Sex Criminals,” “Zero” and “Pretty Deadly” are all pretty popular around these parts, as are “Velvet,” “Umbral” and “Five Weapons.” “Sheltered” is a pretty big breakout book alongside “Rocket Girl,” you can’t go wrong with “The Saviors” and “Drumhellar,” and Remender’s return to Image with “Black Science” is a must read.  I find I’m a sucker for “Three,” and I also recently got caught up with “Rat Queens” and I couldn’t love the book more.

So, y’know, take advantage of it while you can.

The point being: there’s a lot of fantastic titles here for you to check out and read (42, to be exact). So sound off with what you recommend in the comments below, as well as letting us know what you tried and liked. Image are putting their books online to inherently boost the conversation surrounding their titles, so what better place to start doing so than right here, right now?

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
