The final cool/new announcement from Image Expo, and it’s the one you should pay the most attention to. While all of tonight’s announcements are equally amazing, this is the one truly promoting Image’s mantra of new creators with new ideas.

Reported by our man on the floor Gilbert Short, Ken Garing is bringing his online comic Planetoid to print through Image. As revealed in Eric Stephenson’s keynote, Ron Richards (one of the founders of iFanboy and one of the men at Graphicly) pitched bringing the book from a digital only comic to print to Stephenson, who in turn got in contact with Ken and made it happen (good one, Ron!). Now Planetoid will see life as a five-issue mini series from Image starting in June.

Starring an ex-soldier turned space pirate (like all the best rogues) named Silas, the book finds Silas stranded on a mysterious planet, exploring the new terrain and fighting off “rogue mechanical creatures, roving cyborg militias, and a hostile alien military with a bounty on his head.” The book is written and illustrated entirely by Garing.

Congrats to Garing on landing the deal! You can find Planetoid #1 on Graphicly right now, but look forward to being able to hold it in your hands come June.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
