They teased us and tried to trick us into believing it wasn’t a third volume of Phonogram, but we didn’t believe them. Did you?

Reported by our man on the floor Gilbert Short, it is in fact true that Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson are in fact teaming up for a third volume of Phonogram, entitled “The Immaterial Girl.” While a date has yet to be confirmed, Kieron Gillen elaborates on his blog that the series will be six issues, and explains that it is mainly about the war between Emily Astor and the half of her personality she sold to whatever world exists beyond the mirror (elaborated heavily on during the third issue of the second volume). As Gillen writes, “It’s about identity, eighties music videos and further explorations of Phonogram’s core “Music = Magic” thesis. There is horror. There are jokes. There are emotions. There may even be a fight sequence. It also takes A-ha’s Take On Me with far too much seriousness — which, for us, is the correct amount of seriousness.”

After saying that there would be no third Phonogram for so long, to finally get that third Phonogram feels like a reward for good behavior. We don’t know what we did to deserve it, but we’re not complaining.

Look for the series later this year, and for the love of all that is holy in pop music, please buy it this time. If you don’t, MC writer Josh Mocle is sure to write another angry rant, and nobody wants that.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
