Image Pokes Fun At Marvel; Announces New Series?

Take a look at that image from Image Comics. Looks great, doesn’t it? Notice anything … odd? You just might if you’re familiar with Marvels recent Avengers team announcement. Outside of whether or not this “ok”, you can’t help but chuckle at the marketing idea here.

So what do we have? Well, we have Invincible, back in his original costume (which we knew was happening). It doesn’t look like Ryan Ottley’s artwork though. On top of that we have the quote “I’ve never really been much of a team player,” as well as the slogan I’m A Member Of The Guardians Of The Globe. The Guardians logo is a clear taken on the Avengers logo, although Guardians was always more of a Justice League analogue. We also have the ominous August 2010 tag at the bottom.

So what does this mean? Are we actually getting a Guardians of the Globe title? Is this something post Image United that will be going on the Image universe, or perhaps post Viltrumite War? Image has been attempting to get it’s books more interconnected, and Kirkman has been good about connecting his books via Invincible (i.e. Astonishing Wolf-Man, Brit, Savage Dragon, etc). So Image, what’s going on?

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
