Via Popverse, Image Comics have announced “Swan Songs,” a six-part anthology series exploring what happens when we die, and “all the implications that brings.” The series was written by W. Maxwell Prince (“Ice Cream Man”), and features a different artist on each story; the first was illustrated by Martin Simmonds (“The Department of Truth”), while Filipe Andrade (“The Many Deaths of Leila Star”) and Caspar Wijngaard (“All Against All”) have been confirmed for future issues. The first issue, which follows a man waiting for his mother to die while the apocalypse unfolds outside their hospital, goes on sale July 5.
Image also announced “Purr Evil,” a six-part action horror series by writer Mirka Andolfo (“Mercy”) and artist Laura Braga (“Bombshells”). Described as The Last of Us meets “Hit-Girl” and Léon: The Professional, the book follows Rita, “a young mother forced by the mistakes of her dark past to become a ruthless, cold-blooded killer, in order to defend her daughter Deb from the endless evil that looms over her. In a world on the brink of doom, the unconditional love between mother and daughter must overcome every barrier and every misunderstanding alongside blood, sweat, tears, and a tremendous lot of malevolent kittens.” It will begin on July 26.
Finally, the publisher revealed Jeff Lemire’s “Fishflies” will be published in print beginning July 12. The series, which originally debuted on Lemire’s Substack newsletter in 2021, is a surrealist horror series that follows the manhunt for the attacker of a teenage boy, all while a girl befriends the fugitive, setting them on an “odyssey of discovery and redemption.” The oversized first issue will be preceded by an excerpt in Image’s Gold Free Comic Book Day issue, releasing Saturday, May 6.
