In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night, Bradley Cooper Shall Not Escape My Sight?

As you may, or may not know, we here at Multiversity Comics are BIG Green Lantern fans. Well, speaking for myself and Matt, anyway. So I’ve been eagerly anticipating DC to get off their obsession with Superman and Batman, so we can get deeper into the pantheon of DC heroes. There are a few heroes I’m wary about translating onto the silver screen(Flash, I’m looking at you), but Green Lantern is not one of them. And I think GL is a perfect way to get further into the mythology, much like how Iron Man is eventually bringing the Marvel heroes together for an Avengers movie. I think DC is seeing that Marvel is doing it “right” and they have to get on the ball if they hope to remain competitive with Marvel.

Now, the recent rumors of Cooper bring a pattern to my attention. Everyone else attached, like Chris Pine(Captain Kirk of new Star Trek fame,…Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan) and Ryan Gosling(Lars & The Real Girl, Half Nelson, total awesomeness in general) are all more suited to play Hal Jordan than others, like John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, or even Guy Gardner. All are VERY white, so John Stewart is obviously out, and even Kyle Rayner is unlikely, because while he’s part Irish, he’s also half Mexican(side note, if they wanted to cast Kyle Rayner, my pick would be David Boreanaz of Buffy, Angel, and Bones fame). Even Guy Gardner is iffy, because he’s a supporting character, at best. and the original Lantern, Alan Scott, is not relevant enough( and his costume is ugly). Not that I’m against Hal carrying the movie. He’s the most famous of the Lanterns, and probably the one most suited for a leading role in a movie. I’d say Rayner would come second, but that’s neither here nor there(unless they bring in Rayner later in the franchise for a Parallax story :OOOOOOOO). as a matter of fact, this is most likely a foregone conclusion because Hal is the “Greatest Of All The Green Lanterns”.

I’ve heard some guys scoff a bit at the idea of him playing Hal, but mostly because they think he’s better for the role of Marvel’s Captain America. But you know what? I would probably be happy no matter who he played, because I like Cooper as an actor a lot. I think he has the range for funny and serious(Alias anyone? Then there’s Wedding Crashers and Kitchen Confidential. Both hilarious. But let’s leave Midnight Meat Train out of this.) and be believable in both roles.

In the end, I would probably prefer he played Green Lantern, but that’s because I really think that if Josh Holloway cleaned up(read: cut his hair like in the pic on the left, shaved) after LOST ended, he would be damn near perfect for Steve Rogers. If not, well, he’d make a great Guy Gardner 😉

Also, since we’re discussing roles for Green Lantern, who do you think will be in the movie? Carol is a given, but what about the Guardians? Who do you think should play them? Danny DeVito is a little on the nose, and plus, I think he’s too short.

Since we all like playing casting director, who are your picks for your favorite characters? How about Clive Owen as Bigby Wolf? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam?

Let me know in the comments!

Gilbert Short

Gilbert Short. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. When he's not reading comic books so you don't have to, he's likely listening to mediocre music or watching excellent television. Passionate about Giants baseball and 49ers football. When he was a kid he wanted to be The Ultimate Warrior. He still kind of does. His favorite character is Superman and he will argue with you about it if you try to convince him otherwise. He also happens to be the head of Social Media Relations, which means you should totally give him a follow onTwitter.
