Christopher Priest is making his Marvel return this summer on a five-part Inhumans event with artist Phil Noto called “Inhumans: Once and Future Kings.” The event seeks to tell the “definitive origin of the Inhumans, never before told!” The story will follow Black Bolt emerging from isolation, courting Medusa, and fighting his brother Maximus.

This comic will spin out of Al Ewing and Jonboy Meyers’ “Royals” which launched in March which is also looking to redefine the origins of the Inhumans, tracing their origins to the Kree homeworld Hala and beyond. The real excitement with this announcement comes with the return of Christopher Priest to Marvel. Priest wrote an acclaimed run of “Black Panther” and the original “The Crew” in the late 90s and early 00s and is currently writing “Deathstroke” for DC in Rebirth, which has been one of their most acclaimed title of the relaunch. Phil Noto is currently the artist on “Star Wars: Poe Dameron” and has also done art on “Black Widow” and “Star Wars: Chewbacca.”

With this, and the announcement of “Spider-Men II” earlier in the week, it is clear that while Marvel is not launching any new big events for 18-months, they’e really leaning into the small, inter-line crossovers.

What do you think about Christopher Priest returning to Marvel?
