UPDATE: Well, this is a bummer. Turns out Ales Kot has indeed left “Suicide Squad” and will be focusing on “Zero”, his new series coming from Image in September. This is what he posted to his blog today on the matter.
Dear readers —
Since the solicitations for October’s DC titles came out, I was repeatedly asked if I am no longer writing Suicide Squad. Yes, Matt Kindt is writing SS #24 and I am no longer writing Suicide Squad. Matt’s “3 Story” is one of my favorite graphic novels I read in the last few years and I look forward to reading “Mind MGMT” when I finally find the time to buy the first hardcover collection, which you can find here. Matt Kindt is a very capable storyteller who is doing exciting things in the comics medium and I wish him great things.
I killed my deadlines, I wrote my best, and I have no regrets whatsoever.
Thank you for the ride, for your support, for everything.
Have wonderful days and nights.
ZERO #1 is coming out 9/18 from Image Comics. Come with us.
We’re all fans of Matt Kindt here at Multiversity Comics and there’s no doubt that his “Suicide Squad” will be a solid lead, but it’s still sad to see Kot’s promising run cut so short.
We’ll be here for “Zero” and for Kindt’s “Suicide Squad” assuringly.
ORIGINAL POST:
So CBR revealed DC’s solicitations for October. And this happened:
SUICIDE SQUAD #24
Written by MATT KINDT
Art by PATRICK ZIRCHER
Cover by JASON PEARSON
On sale OCTOBER 9 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+
A FOREVER EVIL tie-in! Belle Reve has been turned to rubble and the inmates are on the loose! Alone, Amanda Waller must fight her way out and form a new Suicide Squad! Or is a new team already in place?
And then this happened:
@ales_kot I saw in the solicits that you aren't writing Suicide Squad #24. You're not off the book, are you?

@theHipSteer: You can expect an announcement on that soon.

So, what does this mean? Hell if I know. Concretely, all we know is that Ales Kot isn’t writing #24 of “Suicide Squad”. But does this mean Kot is off the book all together? As someone who gave #21 a 9.0, I really hope that isn’t the case. Kot gave the series an identity it sorely lacked in just two issues. But Kot has “Zero” coming from Image later in the year, did he leave “Suicide Squad” to focus on that?
Is this simply a case of Kindt writing the “Forever Evil” tie-ins and Kot will return later? Who knows! I don’t, but my second article” on this site was about Kot’s “Change” which became my comic of the year so I certainly hope whatever happens, it means getting more from Ales Kot.
I, for one, am waiting with baited breath.
